Planned Parenthood, Anti-Abortion Group Spending, Raising Money In Presidential Race

Planned Parenthood is planning a foray in to the presidential race by buying advertising in battleground states aimed at Mitt Romney over his abortion stance. In the meantime, an anti-abortion group is raising money in response to last week's Democratic National Convention.

The Hill: Planned Parenthood Hits Romney With Record-Breaking Ad Buy
Planned Parenthood's political arm will hit Mitt Romney over abortion with new ads in Virginia and Ohio, the group announced Monday. The ad buy, worth $3.2 million, comes as part of the largest-ever campaign effort for Planned Parenthood Votes. The group has already invested $1.4 million on ads in Iowa, Florida and Virginia. A narrator says that Romney would "turn back the clock for women" in the new 30-second spot, which began airing Monday in Virginia (Viebeck, 9/10).

The Hill: Group Fundraises Off Dems' 'Radical Abortion Convention'
Americans United for Life Action is passing the hat in response to last week's Democratic convention, which the group calls the "most pro-abortion conference in a generation." "Watching President Obama's pro-abortion convention, I actually felt like I was viewing Planned Parenthood's national conference," AUL Action President Charmaine Yoest wrote in a letter to supporters. "On President Obama's watch, Planned Parenthood received more than $1.34 million of your tax dollars every day," Yoest claimed. "We need your immediate contribution to end Planned Parenthood's occupation of the White House in November" (Viebeck, 9/10).
