The PlayersRON POLLACK
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, FAMILIES USA

Date of Birth: Feb. 21, 1944.

Education: B.A., Queens College; J.D., New York University.

Career Path: Pollack was the dean of the Antioch School of Law and worked on food, consumer and hunger issues before becoming the founding executive director of Families USA in 1982.

Role in Health Care Reform, 1993-1994: Pollack organized Families USA’s support for President Clinton’s health care plan.

Why He’s a Player Now: Families USA is a liberal advocacy group that is pushing hard for a health care overhaul that would provide universal and affordable coverage building on the existing system. It also has a special focus on the needs of low-income individuals.

Quote: “We have two core goals for health care reform: that everyone who currently has satisfactory health care coverage can keep that coverage, and that those who do not currently have health care coverage can get it. We believe that the most effective and efficient way to achieve both of those goals is to build upon the existing health care system.” (Congressional testimony, April 23, 2009)
